Abstract

This collection of essays honours the significant contribution of Pandit S.L.P. Anjaneya Sarma to Indological Studies during the nearly forty years he spent at the Centre of the École française d’Extrême-Orient in Pondicherry. An accomplished scholar of traditional grammar (Vyākaraṇa) and Advaita-Vedānta in his own right, with unquenchable intellectual curiosity and a true love for Sanskrit and Telugu, Anjaneya Sarma worked on many ambitious research projects pertaining to Indian belles-lettres and technical literature, while generously guiding researchers and students from all around the world in their own endeavours in the field of Sanskrit. The twenty-one essays by world-renowned researchers, who are all his students or colleagues, present recent advances in research in the four major fields he most passionately engaged in, namely Sanskrit grammar, poetics, philosophy and literary studies. All of them are aimed as an echo to the richness and depth of their author’s interactions with Prof. Sarma over the years, and are presented to him as a token of gratitude. They are preceded by a biography (in English and French), and by a complete bibliography of his published works.
