Dejanirah Couto, Associate Professor with accreditation to supervise PhD students (HDR) at the École Pratique des Hautes Études, Section des Sciences Historiques et Philologiques, Paris (EPHE). She has edited and published several books and a wide number of articles in the field of global and connected history, on the subject of maritime and military history, diplomatic negotiation, cartography, port cities and merchant networks. Her research focuses on the Portuguese Empire in Asia, and its political and cultural relations with the Muslim empires and powers in the Indian Ocean in the early modern era (Safavid Iran, Ottoman Empire, India and Insulindia sultanates).
