About - LÂM Thị Mỹ Dung

Lâm Thị Mỹ Dung received her MA and PhD in Archaeology from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1983 and 1987, respectively. Since 1989, she has been a Lecturer in archaeology and Vietnamese ancient culture at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi. She chaired the Department of Archaeology and served as Director of the Museum of Anthropology. After her retirement in 2023, she continues as a contract senior professor at USH, VNU Hanoi.

Prof. Lâm Thị Mỹ Dung’s research focuses on the Metal Age in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, the origins of rice cultivation, and bronze metallurgy. She has directed major excavations, including at Bai Lang Port (1999–2000), Go Dua (2001), Thanh Den (2010, 2012), and Vuon Chuoi (2009–2025). She has authored and co-authored numerous works, including Fundamental Culture of Vietnam (1999), The Bronze Age (2004), and Sa Huynh – Linyi – Champa (2017) and has published extensively in English and French, with articles in the Journal of Southeast Asian Archaeology (1997), BIPPA (2009), and ISEAS Singapore (2011). Her research on Champa ceramics was published in Arts du Vietnam - Nouvelles Approches (2015). She is also the first author and co-author of numerous articles in Vietnamese Archaeology, Archaeological Research in Asia, Asian Perspectives, Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences, and Public Archaeology.
