About - Caroline JACKSON

Caroline Jackson has degrees in archaeology and archaeological science, and these are recurrent threads throughout all her research. The main focus of her research is on the analysis of material culture, in order to understand technology, technological change, the movement of things, peoples and knowledge and to address larger themes such as cultural and social impacts of technology in context. She has collaborated with many researchers worldwide and has supervised numerous research students who have enriched her research. She has published widely particularly on ancient glass, including those from Bronze Age Egypt, the western Roman provinces, post-Roman western Europe, and more recently collaborated with Taiwanese colleagues on Metal Age glass from Taiwan. She has also been working with engineers and industry partners to meet sustainable development goals relating to production, consumption, recycling, energy and climate action. She is currently in the School of History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, after the closure of the Archaeology Department in 2024 where she worked for over 20 years.
