Suzuki Kenkō 鈴木堅弘 is an Adjunct Professor at Osaka University and Kyoto Seika University. He specializes in Edo-period cultural and art history. He is the author of an introductory book on the iconological analysis of the Japanese erotic art shunga 春画: “Kakushi aitemu” de yomitoku shunga nyūmon 「隠しアイテム」で読み 解く春画入門 (Shūeisha Intānashonaru, 2022). His latest publications also include two articles, one that analyzes the relationship between hell pictures and temple legends in Tohoku from the perspective of women’s history, “Jigoku-e Juku-zu to Jōsenji engi emaki no kōten: Kantō jūhachi danrin ni okeru ubume, dataiji kyūsaitan to nyonin ōjō no tera” 地獄絵《受苦図》と《常宣寺縁起絵巻》の交点:関東十八檀林におけ る産女・堕胎児救済譚と女人往生の寺 (Setsuwa bungaku kenkyū 説話文学研究 58, 2023), and another one that demonstrates the authenticity of the legends surrounding the creator of Ōtsu-e paintings, “Chikamatsu Monzaemon Keisei Hangōkō to ezō shutsugen no kitan: Ōtsu-e, Asai Ryōi, Seki Semimaru jinja engi” 近松門左衛門『 けい せい反魂香』 と絵像出現の奇譚:大津絵・浅井了意・関蝉丸神社縁起 (Setsuwa, denshōgaku 説話・伝承学 30, 2022).
