About - CHEN Kuo-tung
Chen Kuo-tung received his B.A. & M.A. degrees in History (National Taiwan University, 1977 & 1980), and his PhD in History at Yale University (1990). He is currently Research Fellow at the Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica. His research interests include Chinese economic history, maritime history of East Asia, and art-and-craft history, all of the Ming-Qing period. He has coordinated a joint research project (Maritime knowledge for China Seas in the 16th–18th century) with Paola Calanca of the École française d’Extrême-Orient, France. He has published more than one hundred articles and commentaries and edited several books.
