About - TSANG Cheng-hwa

Tsang Cheng-hwa is an archaeologist, currently Distinguished Research Chair Professor and Director of the Institute of Anthropology at National Tsing Hua University. He earned his PhD in anthropology and East Asian Languages ​​and Civilizations at Harvard University in 1986. Before his retirement from Academia Sinica in 2017, he was a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Institute of History and Philology. His main research focuses on the archaeology of Taiwan, South China, and Southeast Asia. He has been engaged in the research of Taiwan archaeology for over 40 years and carried out tens of archaeological research projects contributing to the reconstruction of the history of Taiwanese peoples from the Paleolithic to Modern Times. He also served as the Director of National Museum of Prehistory (2002–2006) and has recently been leading the development of underwater archaeology in Taiwan and the research and preservation of Taiwan’s underwater cultural heritage.
