Terry F. Kleeman

has taught at the Universities of Pennsylvania and Minnesota and the College of William and Mary; he is currently Assistant Professor of East Asian Languages and Religion at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He received his M.A. from the University of British Columbia and his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. He has pursued research at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes in Paris and at the Institute of Oriental Culture of the University of Tokyo. His specialization lies in the area of Chinese popular religions and Taoism with a special interest in the Sichuan region. Recent publications include A god's own tale: The Book of Transformations ofWenchang (SUNY Press, 1994), "The expansion of the Wen-ch'ang Cult" (in Ebrey and Gregory, eds., Religion and society in Vang and Sung China, University of Hawaii Press, 1993), "The Lord(s) of Sichuan: An orthodox regional cult" (Tôhô shukyo 1992/1993), and Great Perfection: Religion and ethnicity in a Chinese millennial kingdom (Hawaii, 1998).
