She received the Licence en philologie et histoire orientales from the Université Catholique de Louvain in 1970 and a PhD in Fine Arts from Harvard University in 1976. Her most recent publication includes Art, Tea, and Industry: Masuda Takashi and the Mitsui Circle (Princeton: Princeton University Press, 1993) and Japanese Art of the Edo Period (London: Calmann and King Ltd., 1966). A French version, Le Japon de la période Edo, has been published by Flammarion (Paris, 1996).
