Peter GREGORY

Currenltly an Associate professor in the Program for the Study of Religion and the Department of East Asian Languages at the University of Illinois and Vice President of the Kuroda Institute for the Study of Buddhism and Human Values. In addition to his Tsung-mi and the Sinification of Buddhism (1991), he has edited four volumes, including Religion and Society in Tang and Sung China (1993) and Sudden and Gradual : Approaches to Enlightenment in Chinese Thought (1987). He has recently completed a manuscript entitled A Primer of Chinese Buddhist Thought which uses a translation and commentary to Tsung-mi's Yuan jen lun to introduce the field to nonspecialists.
