Ph. D. in Anthropology, Columbia University (1979). Associate Curator in charge of the Asian Ethnographic Collections at the American Museum of Natural History, New York. Co-editor with Mark Peterson of Korean Women: View from the Inner Room (1983) and with Griffin Dix of Religion and Ritual in Korean Society ( 1 987). Author of Shamans, Housewives, and other Restless Spirits ( 1 985), and The Life and Hard Times of a Korean Shaman (1988).
