Suzuki Shôei
has served as curator at the Osaka Municipal Museum director of the Nagaoka Municipal Museum of Science and director of the Nagaoka Municipal Museum of History. He is currently a member of the Japanese Association for the Study of Folk Religion and director of the Japanese Association for the Study of Mountain Asceticism His publications on Shugendô have been collected in the three-volume Shugendô rekishi minzoku ronshu (published from Hôzôkan, Kyoto): Shugen kyôdan no keisei to tenkai (2003), Reizan mandara to shugen fuzoku (2004), and Echigo, Sado no sangaku shugen (2004).
