Miyake Hitoshi
is Professor Emeritus at Keiô University and lecturer at Kokugakuin University. He is president of the Association for the Study of Japanese Mountain Religion and Shugendô, former president of the Japanese Association for Religious Studies, and a member of the Science Council of Japan. His publica¬ tions span five decades, covering topics ranging from Shugendô ritual, thought and organization to the systematic study of folklore. His most recent research concerns the relationship between Shinto and Shugendô.
