Umeno Mitsuoki

is a curator at the Prefectural Museum of History and Ethnology of Kôchi (Kôchi kenritsu rekishi minzoku shiryô-kan). His publications include "Kioku no gihô, kaishaku no gihô: Kôchi-ken Ôtoyo-chô no jabuchi denshô" [Technique of memory, technique of interpretation: Traditions on Snake-depths in Ôtoyo-chô, in Kôchi Prefecture], in Komatsu Kazuhiko, ed., Kioku suru minzoku shakai (Kyôto, Jinbun shoin, 2009); "Tenchû Himemiya, Fuma no honji: Izanagi-ryû to miko shinkô" [Tenchû Himemiya, and Fuma no honji: Izanagi-ryû and the beliefs of female shamans], Kokuritsu rekishi minzoku hakubutsukan kenkyû hôkoku (2008). He is mainly interested in the study of folkloric culture of Kôchi Prefecture, its folkloric tools and other daily or ceremonial utensils, performing arts and popular beliefs.
