David T. Bialock
is associate professor of Japanese Literature at the University of Southern California, where he also serves as chair of the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. He is the author of Eccentric Spaces, Hidden Histories: Narrative, Ritual, and Royal Authority from The Chronicles of Japan to The Tale of the Heike (Stanford University Press, 2007). His current research includes a book of essays on ecocriticism and Japanese literature; and work on a companion volume of Heike studies and translations.
